Annual Open Meeting

The Annual Open meeting of Chesterton Community Association will be held jointly with Old Chesterton Residents' Association on Friday 29th May at 7.30 p.m. at St Andrew's Hall. One of our guest speakers will be David Appleyard who has been appointed lead artist for delivery of the Public Art for Elizabeth House (1 Chesterton High Street) currently undergoing redevelopment as a private sixth form college and which is expected to be occupied by its first students in the autumn.

Each organisation will hold their AGMs that evening (neither will take very long) before looking at the challenges facing Chesterton over the next few years.

An appreciation

Julian Huppert was one of many Liberal Democrat MPs to lose their seats on May 7th. He proved a worthy successor to David Howarth and played a big part in securing the new railway station and City Deal for Cambridge. Julian had previously been County Councillor for East Chesterton and has continued to take a close interest in local matters and especially supported the Friends of Stourbridge Common. We wish him well for the future.

New Station Development

The Local Liaison Forum monitoring the delivery process for the new station were updated on 11th May 2015 by Network Rail on the progress of the develoopment. They have now made their new planning application to replace the outline planning consent that was obtained by the County Council in 2013. Apart form updates relating to conditions that have already been met the new application is identical with the County Council application adn is being made for technical legal reasons. Network Rail will later make another planning application to make significant changes to the scheme allowing it to use its own land for a new car park that will improve the overall usability of the site. This will also aim to dovetail with the Area Action Plan being developed for the North East Cambridge Area.

On the ground a large part of teh new busway has been completed and the milton Road Cycle underpass is expected to open later this summer. Gantries have been installed to carry the overhead power cables for the new layout. The new station is now expected to open in December 2016.

Chesterton: A Year in Photographs Project

This project, organized and conducted by the CCA  members, photographed a calendar year from 1st. May 2012 to 31st. May 2013 recording the life and activities of the residents of Chesterton.

The aim was to collect a Picture-a-Day plus extra images of special events such as the Queen's Jubilee and the Annual Chesterton Festival. 450 of the photographs from the year were recorded and have been made available on DVD. They have earned income for the Chesterton Community.

Beginning in May 2012, a retrospective slideshow of each three months of the whole record can be seen here together with the twelve selected monthly images shown at the 2013 Chesterton Festival: months currently showing - May to July 2012
