Chesterton Conservation areas appraisals
Caring for your local environment
The Chesterton Conservation Areas were set up in 1969 and extensively enlarged when reviewed in 2003-2009. Cambridge Past Present and Future (CPPF) have been commissioned to carry out Conservation Area appraisals on behalf of the City Council and have recently completed one on the De Freville Area. They are now moving on to the Chesterton and Ferry Lane Conservation Areas. The exercise is being led by Stacey Weiser of CPPF with two volunteer helpers Dr John Gray and Michael Goodhart. Michael Bond has joined them as an East Chesterton representative and brings his experience from involvement in the last appraisal.
The aim is to look at our local environment in its entirety which involves not only buildings but the spaces between them. If you have ideas that you feel would enhance Chesterton by conserving any part of it we woudl like to hear from you. Are there buildings or sreas that you feel are under threat? If you think so please tell us. Any comments you make will be kept confidential unless you agree to their being published under your name.
We are looking to involve local residents in the appraisals with a view to completing the first covering Old Chesterton early next year and the second on the Ferry Lane and Water Street area after that. Please contact me if you are interested in being involved.
