Active Communities - Cricket Update
9 June 2010
This will include exploringwhat is available at Manor CC and elsewhere. The review will take place in July and August and will be reported back in September (which would also allow for any budget issues to be explored). The report will consider the capital and revenue costs of an artificial wicket and/or nets if it is shown this is needed at Pye'sPitch. At this point it is thought that a grass wicket will prove too costly to install and maintain.
The ground levelling on Pyes Pitch has revealed a very large drain (hitherto unknown) which will also mean that Active Communities will be exploring with Cambs FA, Chesterton Eagles and Crusaders, the best pitch layouts across both Pyes Pitch and Pyes Rec. This might mean two junior ones on Pyes PItch and the adult one on Pyes Rec. The football pitches will be seeded and cut but then not marked out until August. If cricket proves to be needed this will be possible (though funding is needed)
Cambridge City Council still need to resolve the issue of the fencing erected by Redehams to the left of the Riverside Bridge. This has cut off public access to the public open space on that side but to date Redehams have not responded (except to deny all knowledge of who put it there!!). The state of the open space and swales is currently very poorly maintained by Redehams and again they (Steve Billings) have failed to respond as to why it is being so neglected. Cambridge City Councily will not take it on in its current state

This is to inform you that investigations have shown that there is a need for additional capacity for cricket provision in the north of the City in addition to the current facility at Manor Community College. We are therefore proposing to put in an artificial cricket wicket at Pyes
